MISSION STATEMENT
BEACON
pledges to facilitate collaborative exchange and research among its industrial,
clinical and academic partners. Our commitment is to foster an environment
that optimizes the development and delivery to commercially viable innovations
in biomedical science and engineering for healthcare applications.
BEACON
is incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) trade association whose
major goals are to facilitate collaborative research and industrial partnering
as well as the facilitation of new developing medical technology companies.
To accomplish this goal, BEACON has created a “Preferential Access
Network” which provides its members access to the expertise and
resources within the BEACON community.
Strategic
Objectives
- Promote
collaborative research among its academic, medical and industrial
partners in the field of biomedical engineering. These efforts include
developing program projects like grant applications as well as SBIRs.
- Build
bridges to other centers and organizations interested in biomedical
research and development. These efforts include establishing alliances
with such organizations as MetroHartford Alliance, CBIA (CT Business
& Industry Association), CTC (CT Technology Council) and the Alliance
for Connecticut Technology.
- Provide
educational opportunities (courses, seminars, curriculum, programs,
etc.) that facilitate a better understanding and the acquisition of
specific knowledge and expertise in the field of biomedical research
and development. These efforts include the creation of educational
opportunities for a wide audience, such as undergraduate and graduate
BME students, practicing professionals via continuing education, industry
via seminars and programs to assist them learn for competitive advantage,
medical/clinical community via seminars and specific courses of interest
and the general public via seminars and conferences.
- Facilitate
the development of new medical device companies by assisting academics
and clinicians develop their business plan and obtain funding.
BEACON’S
administrative offices are located at the heart of one of New England’s
medically and technically rich environments in Hartford, Connecticut.
